Dual diagnosis is the process through which we provide adequate treatment for a client who is dealing with both an addiction and a co-occurring mental health disorder. In instances like this, clients should receive treatment for both the co-occurring disorder and the substance abuse.
If a client is struggling with a co-occurring disorder, but the disorder is not adequate treated, they are at an exponentially increased risk of returning to substance abuse after they have graduated from an addiction recovery program if they do not receive the support of dual diagnosis mental health treatment.
